Initial Situation
The client operated a historically grown SAP BW landscape with
many redundant objects, complex loading chains, and performance
bottlenecks in reporting. At the same time, new business
requirements arose that were difficult to implement with the
existing architecture.
Objectives
- Migration to SAP BW/4HANA with a modern architecture design
- Reduction of data and object redundancies
- Performance optimization for loading processes and reporting
- Improved maintainability and clearer responsibilities
Approach & Implementation
The first step included an analysis of the existing architecture and
the most important reporting scenarios. Based on this, a target
architecture following the LSA++ approach was designed, including
layer definitions, naming conventions, and governance rules.
In several iterations, data models were consolidated, loading
processes optimized, and BW objects migrated step by step to
BW/4HANA. In parallel, SAP HANA Views were integrated and SAC
was connected for self-service reporting.
Results & Added Value
- Significantly faster loading and reporting times
- Substantially reduced object footprint
- Transparent, documented architecture with clear responsibilities
- Foundation established for future analytics use cases
