Initial Situation
In many projects, core processes such as sales, purchasing, quality management
or service were still heavily based on classic SAP GUI transactions and Excel reports.
Interfaces were complex, practically unusable on mobile devices, and required
extensive training for new employees.
At the same time, reporting was expected to move towards real-time insights – for example via
Fiori-based sales apps, Fiori-supported QM analytics, as well as SAP FIORI / SAPUI5 reports
in the context of BW/4HANA, Datasphere and SAC.
Objectives
- Replacing complex SAP GUI transactions with intuitive SAP Fiori apps
- Role-based start pages in the SAP Fiori Launchpad
- Consistent Fiori-based reporting across S/4HANA, BW/4HANA and SAC
- Mobile usage (e.g. for sales, field staff and operational managers)
- Reduction of errors, click paths and onboarding times
- Clean authorization and role model for all Fiori apps and reports
Approach & Architecture
As a first step, the relevant business processes were identified together with the departments –
including sales reporting, quality management, purchasing and service processes.
Based on this, UX concepts for Fiori apps were designed (tiles, list-detail navigation,
filtering and search concepts, processing flows).
Several architectural building blocks were used:
- S/4HANA Public Cloud: Design and development of tailored Fiori apps
incl. custom CDS views and role-based provisioning within the Fiori Launchpad.
- CDS Views & ABAP: Creation of high-performance, reusable CDS models
for Fiori apps, BW/4HANA and SAC (including associations, aggregations, joins
and performance tuning).
- BW/4HANA & SAC: Use of FIORI/SAPUI5 reports and dashboards
based on a harmonized data model – e.g. in finance, purchasing and logistics processes.
In parallel, a clear role and authorization concept was established to ensure that users
see exactly the tiles and data they need for their daily tasks.
